From Jasmine at Simply-Infatuated: The video was amazing. The video had really cool different effects throughtout the video which make the video even more interesting to watch. I liked this video from beginning to end. The effects and scene selections you guys chose from King Kong went so well with the song. This video was a definitely a really good cast action video. It definitely showed the struggles that everyone went through in the movie. You guys really editted and put a lot of time and thought to making this video. I loved how you guys did this video
From Cora at Bashful Awards: A nice collaboration between two great vidders. Nice editing to match the song. I really liked the editing at 3:26 and the overlay effects areound the 4:03 area. Good simplistic editing.
From Olivia at CBQMV: Its odd to see that there are two of you who made this video. But I’m guessing you both had your own input in some way? Groovy! I’ve never seen King Kong unfortunately but I really want to see it!
First Watching
Wahoho. Intense. Very intense. Clever, original. Intense. Well cut. You wrapped up the film very nicely. When it first thought was oh, great. Long boring. But then 3 nanoseconds of it were long enough for me to think, wow, I want to see this video! Although some effects I hate with a loathing, but you used them really well.
Second Watching
Although the quick cuts are effective I think the choice of clips for the first 3 images weren’t strong enough to grip a hold on me. I’m a bit fussy like that, but seeing as they are only quick cuts you need something more striking. But as I continue I see you have the image of the spear through the chest and her screaming, so it does cause a shock.
As soon as that crackling comes in, it’s a hairs-on-the-back-of-the-neck-shiver causing moment. The bit where she’s (apologies, I can’t remember the character’s name!) tied up and about to meet Kong for the first time is used perfectly at the beginning there, you’ve kinda put them together like an old fashioned movie. I like it. That scene comes together really well with all the fade-from-blacks on the clips.
Ooh, first effect there, a mirror reflective thing. It was used quickly and effectively, well done.
To be honest when the voice came in, I hated it. The screaming type stuff annoys me, but because you chose the image of Kong tearing Ann (haha! Yes I remembered her name!) away into the forests and darkness – you created the illusion that she was screaming combined with the singers voice coming in. Nice. Its actually a little bit frightening....
Oh, the “In Sleep He Sang To Me” tag is too big and slightly annoying. You can make writing smaller, I suggest you do this because the footage itself is small. When the singers voice comes in it turns softer, which is a good relief from the beginning...
The repetition? You do this a few times. As effective as it is, I think it slows the video down a bit, because I felt that I just wanted to move on with the rest of the video, instead of watching the same action again and again. Don't get me wrong, it is effective with the style of the video!
I see you then proceed in the same style using other sections from the film. Good. The frozen stills... I see you've slowed them down so slow that they appear like stills, and it works but I'd have liked to see some more action.
Summary
Wonderful ending. It nicely sums up (as does the rest of the video) how the whole experience was truly terrifying and you can see that Ann has suffered. Good clip choices, and the video definitely would have been nothing without the choice of music, so, well done.
